The Alpine Dancers
The Alpine Dancers are a performing and teaching folk dance group specializing in couples and trio dances from Austria and Germany, and they perform throughout the greater Washington, DC area. The Alpine Dancers were formally established as a performing group in 1991, and specialize in intricate Bavarian-type figure dances. Their current repertoire combines a wide variety of dances - from graceful to highly energetic. In addition to performing, another specialty of the Alpine Dancers is engaging audience participants, young and old, to join them in some of their dances. The Alpine Dancers will be performing at the Oktoberfest Reston celebration with an authentic Alphorn artist.
Sexton’s German Band
Sexton's German Band has been playing Oktoberfest Music in the Washington/ Baltimore area since 1950! Founder Lysle Sexton, of German descent and raised in Pittsburgh, was an active bandleader and saxophonist until his recent retirement.
The Band's great tradition is now carried on by three of its longtime members and continues to delight their audiences. Over the years, Lysle traveled to Germany where he frequented local music stores, seeking just the right music for his Band Tunes Book. This music library - one of the finest in the world - features every type of German and Austrian dance and singing tune, from traditional Polka to Laendler.
Sexton's German Band boasts only the finest professional members, well versed in the Bavarian style, who actively engage the audience with their onstage enthusiasm and hi-jinks! This is indeed an 11-piece band of great energy and sure to please guests at Oktoberfest Reston!
Mike Surratt & the Continentals
For over three decades, the Continentals have been offering people the right mix of fun and excitement which send them on a musical journey to the Munich Oktoberfest and beyond.
From the classic "Beer Barrel Polka" to the ever popular "Chicken Dance," an evening with The Continentals is sure to please young and old alike. Even though they perform well known traditional favorites, the group continually strives to update their play list with new music coming from Germany, Austria and throughout Europe.
The Group first took the stage in 1972 and since that time they have performed at festivals, concerts and dances from South Dakota to Florida, and many places in between. In addition, the band has hosted nine Caribbean "Oktoberfest" themed cruises and produced eight recordings.
Grab a dance partner, it's time to get on the dance floor with the Nation's Capital Polka Band, the Continentals!
