Conversations With The Experts: Motivating the 21 -30 year old knowledge worker

6/3/2008 8:00 AM-9:30 AM
1763 Fountain Drive, Reston

Addressing the newest diversity issue--age diversity--is not merely a human resource issue, but rather a critically important business issue. Unfortunately many organizations have figured out how to recruit young talent only to watch them drive down a collision course with seasoned employees over issues of work ethic, respect for authority, dress code and non-flexible work arrangements. Spend a morning learning from your colleagues and our generational expert, Chamber Board Member Don Shandler on how to identify those unique motivational factors that specifically address the needs, wants and desires of millennial knowledge workers. Whether we label this group Generation Y, Generation Why, or Generation Me, they represent the fast growing--and most challenging segment--of the new workforce. Line managers, human resource professionals, employers of all sizes need to learn how to motivate millennials who are independent, techno-savy, entrepreneurial hard workers and question all the traditional workplace rules. Implementing effective motivational strategies results in improved economic performance. The interactive workshop is being led by Dr. Donald Shandler, Assistant Vice President of Graduate and Adult Education, Marymount University. His new book, Motivating the 21-30 Year-old Knowledge Worker will be published this fall.
