  • Reston’s pathway system, stretched from end to end, would go all the way to Annapolis, MD (55 miles) from Reston.
  • Reston was the second community in the nation to receive the Community Wildlife Habitat designation from the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) in 2000. The NWF moved its headquarters to Reston in 2001.
  • Basketball superstar Grant Hill got his start playing pick up games on the courts near the Southgate Community Center.
  • The Van Gogh bridge at Lake Anne was built using a special suspension system that was considered an amazing engineering feat.
  • The wetlands at North Hills Park used to be the site where plants, shrubs and trees were grown for a nursery before the North Point section of Reston was fully developed.
  • Reston has the only public clay tennis courts on the East Coast (8 total).
