After hosting the “Networking Breakfast Club and EXPO” for several years, I have come up with “5 Basics Steps to Networking”
1-Networking vs. Selling: (The difference between the two)
When selling, you are concerned with moving your product or service. Your goal is to get it to the customer and get paid in exchange. However, in networking, your goal is to help the other person move their product/service or to help them achieve their goal.
2-Allow them Expression:
By this we mean allowing them to speak first. You want to give them the opportunity to tell you what they need or want, so you know how you can help them and be on the mark.
3-Interested vs. Interesting:
In networking you want to be interested and never "interesting". Have you ever talked to someone who is not paying attention to you at all? No one enjoys someone who just chants their merits.
4- Network is “Net + Work”:
If you are not willing to work then do not get involved in Networking. Networking has to do with “Follow-up”. I advise networking event attendees to design a follow-up plan or system and use it religiously.
5-Consistency is the key:
What would you think of a restaurant that cooks good food only 3 days out of 7? What would you think of an airline that is on time 50% of the time? To get the full results and or benefits of Networking, you have to stick with it, stay the course and do it regularly. Networking must become a regular activity to get excellent results.
