May 22, 2012 – RyanSharkey, LLP welcomed our employee’s children, ranging from age eight to 15, into the office on April 26 to participate in Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work® Day. This is the third year that RyanSharkey has participated in the national program, which is designed to help boys and girls discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life, see the value of their parent’s or mentor’s education, and provide a platform for children to share how they envision their future.

The day’s activities kicked off with a welcome breakfast and office tour, where children of all ages where invited to experience RyanSharkey’s corporate culture. Following the welcome breakfast and a group picture, children participated in icebreaker activities such as “Questions for Accountants” and decorating frames to hold their group picture. Additional activities included a scavenger hunt, interviewing employees, and creating dream and vision boards. Children and their parents enjoyed lunch together in a conference room, where they talked about education and career choices. The day concluded with closing remarks and a certificate of participation presentation for each child, along with goodie bags and a Baskin Robins gift card.

“It was exceptionally rewarding for me to participate in the Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work® Day program, from both a Partner perspective and as a father” said Ed Ryan, Managing Partner with RyanSharkey. “I applaud our team for their efforts in planning such a well thought out and exciting day for the kids, and creatively giving back to our local youth through this special day. Positively contributing to the community where we work and live is a core value of RyanSharkey’s and the Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work® Day program embodies that very commitment.”

The mission of Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work® Day is to serve as a national public education program that connects what children learn at school with the actual working world and encourages girls and boys across the country to dream without limitations and to think imaginatively about their family, work, and community lives.

“As a niche CPA Firm, we are able to really personalize the Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work® Day and give the children direct interaction with all leadership levels – from staff to Partners”, said Dave Sharkey, Tax Partner with RyanSharkey. “I was proud to watch my sons in action but also just as proud to participate as an interviewee for other children. I can’t think of a better way to teach our youth than by exposing them to positive, hands-on work experiences.”

In addition to Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work® Day, RyanSharkey actively gives back to the community through participation in programs and organizations such as VSA Arts of Loudoun County, PHILLIPS Programs for Children and Families, Wounded Warriors Project, Northern Virginia Family Services, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Reston Interfaith, and more.
