RESTON, VA, July 11, 2012 – Haynes Whaley Associates is pleased to welcome Robert Pronier to the Reston, VA office, where he will serve as Regional Manager and firm Vice-President. August 31, John Gander will retire from his current post as Vice-President and General Manager for the Haynes Whaley Reston office.

Gander, who has been leading the office since 2000, began planning his retirement more than two years ago when the search for his replacement began. Pronier was selected to assume the management role because of his track record within the architecture/engineering/construction (A/E/C) industry as well as his leadership style and fit with the Haynes Whaley office culture.

Over the past 30 years, Pronier has worked in the construction industry, most recently serving as senior vice-president at Smith Management Construction, Inc., previously part of the Charles E. Smith Companies, one of the largest real estate organizations in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Pronier will be working under Gander’s direction for three months during the transition to ensure seamless continuation of all services to their clients as well as uninterrupted office operations. In his role of vice-president and regional manager, Pronier will be responsible for overall office management, business development and marketing, and strategic growth in the mid-Atlantic region.

“I’m very confident in Bob’s abilities to not only lead the Reston office, but to also maintain the level of project quality and commitment our clients have come to expect of us under John’s leadership,” said Larry Whaley, P.E., Haynes Whaley President and CEO. “Bob has extensive construction experience, including hands-on experience managing projects from inception to occupancy. He knows intimately what’s expected of each project team member, and will be able to strongly represent the structural aspect of projects. Bob is also very bottom-line driven, so I’m certain he’ll be a good steward of our client’s budgets and schedules.”

Pronier will continue to represent Haynes Whaley in professional and community organizations including the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), Association of Builders and Contractors (ABC), DC Building and Industry Association (DCBIA), National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), and Urban Land Institute (ULI). Pronier and the Reston team will also continue to assist the local community through such volunteer efforts as the senior citizen garden accessibility project completed earlier this year with the Reston Association: http://hwablog.com/2012/05/haynes-whaley-helps-local-community/.

Haynes Whaley Associates is celebrating their 25-year anniversary in Reston this year. Under Gander’s management, the office has expanded into the healthcare, mid- to high-rise residential and office as well as mission critical sectors in the mid-Atlantic region. Haynes Whaley attributes their success in such a wide variety of sectors to their commitment to client relationships.

Craig Myers and Tom Heffernan, also Principals in Haynes Whaley’s Reston office, and Pronier will oversee the completion of prominent projects currently in progress, including Tyson’s Corner Center in McLean, Virginia - a 1.95 million sf multi-use complex including a 20-story office tower and 30-story residential tower above a 7-level parking podium; 1050 1st Street NE in Washington, DC – a 12-story office building above 4 levels of below-grade parking; 1219 First Street in Alexandria, VA – a 14-story residential tower above 2 levels of below-grade parking, and Washington Gateway in Washington, DC - a 1 million sf mixed-use complex including an 11-story and 14-story office tower and 14-story residential tower with three levels of parking below. Haynes Whaley’s projects earned seven national and local building industry awards in 2011 and more than 150 awards in the firm’s 35-year history.
