Founded in 2006, we provide day programs for adults with severe disabilities. Our club members have complex diagnoses and represent the 1% of our population who require personal support for all aspects of living – bathing, toileting, transitioning from bed to wheelchair, feeding and hand over hand assistance with all activities. Thanks to public-private partnerships with local jurisdictions we offer our services at four community centers and a church in Fairfax and Arlington counties. SPARC has been recognized by both jurisdictions for providing services that provide a safety net where there is a great need for adults who would otherwise not be well served.
Without SPARC, our club members would be reduced to sitting in a wheelchair or bed all day long. Justin, one of our first club members explains it best. He says, “I was active and involved during school. But after I transitioned from school, I did not fit into any other programs. I aged out of life at 22.”
Instead of being subjected to what our families refer to as “human warehousing,” our participants enjoy chair yoga, Zumba, art and music therapy, leisure learning (personal skills, peer to peer support, counseling, current events, games, vocational skills training, cooking, photography, gardening and much more!) Our model is called “circuit train the brain” wherein we offer stations and options enabling our participants to self-direct their day.
A Ribbon Cutting, Groundbreaking, or Grand Opening Ceremony is an important part of your overall marketing and advertising plan and is a great way to kick off the opening of a business. The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce would enjoy assisting you in planning a successful event for your company. Please click here for further details.
