First Responders Council: Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events
The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004, provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event.
AVOID starts with your state of mind
DENY when getting away is difficult or maybe impossible
DEFEND because you have the right to protect yourself
The campaign is designed to provide all civilians with knowledge that will empower and instill confidence to survive an active shooter attack whether at work, church, the movie theater, or anywhere else they may be. It is not intended to frighten, but to empower and strengthen the ability to survive.
Avoid | Deny | Defend™ is designed as an awareness tool that will empower and instill confidence in civilians of all ages and abilities, helping them understand that “What You Do Matters™” in an active shooter event.
