    The Northern Virginia Chamber Partnership invites all members and guests to breakfast where you will learn about the policies for this Governor and how the makeup of the closely
    divided General Assembly will affect your business over the next two years.

    Dr. Stephen Farnsworth, Professor and Director, Center for Leadership and Media Studies at University of Mary Washington will lead a discussion with Speaker Kirk Cox and Deputy Minority Leader Sickles to include topics such as:

    • Review of the business related bills that passed in the recent assembly and the impact to your business
    • Identifying the priorities of each party for 2020
    • Upcoming election forecasts and how the newly drawn districts could affect Northern Virginia businesses

    About our Speakers:

    Dr. Stephen J. Farnsworth, Ph.D.

    Dr. Farnsworth is Professor of Political Science and International Affairs and Director of the Center for Leadership and Media Studies at the University of Mary Washington. He is the author or co-author of six books, as well as scholarly articles on the presidency, the mass media, U.S. public opinion and Virginia politics, and is a 2017 recipient of the Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.  His political commentary has appeared in a wide range of media outlets, including the New York Times, Washington Post, PBS NewsHour, Politico, C-SPAN and BBC World.

    Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Kirk Cox

    On January 10, 2018, Kirk Cox was unanimously elected as Speaker by the members of the House of Delegates. Upon being sworn in, Kirk became the first Speaker in state history from Colonial Heights, the first Speaker to represent a portion of Chesterfield County since the 1800s, and the first Speaker whose profession was that of a public school teacher. Prior to serving as Speaker, Kirk served as Majority Leader from 2010 to 2018, and Majority Whip before that. 

    In addition to his role as Speaker, Kirk serves as Chairman of the House Rules Committee and is a member of the Joint Legislative, Audit, and Review Commission (JLARC). Kirk is a former Chair of the Agriculture, Chesapeake, and Natural Resources (ACNR) Committee and former Vice-Chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

    Virginia House of Delegates Deputy Minority Leader Mark Sickles

    Delegate Mark Sickles was born in Arlington, raised in Annandale, and now lives in Huntington.  He has represented the 43rd House District – centered in the Franconia, Kingstowne, Huntington, Lorton, and Ft. Belvoir neighborhoods of South Fairfax County – since 2004. Mark currently serves on the 
    Appropriations Committeethe Health, Welfare, and Institutions Committee, and the Privileges and Elections Committee. In 2011, he was elected Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, serving as chair through the summer of 2014. Mark is currently the House Democratic Caucus Deputy Minority Leader. 

    Registration includes a plated breakfast and is $60 for Members, $75 for Future Members (Additional $10 at the door)..  Online registration will close at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, March 12.
